Positive things: a list

Chantie writes about positive things in almost every blogposts she writes (when she writes! (hint, hint)). So I thought I should do the same. Not write about positive things in every post I write, but in this one. This is the post about positive things. And what else can do than make a list out of it. You know me, a list-o-holic.

  • at the photo/travel fair I entered quite some contests. Answer three questions, write down your name and number and you might win a travel gift-certificate. I think I entered three or four contests. Yesterday when I left work I had to uanswered calls from the same number and a message on my phone. It was from startour.no. I had won a gift certificate on 1000 NOK! I think I screamed a bit when I listened to the message on my phone. I never win anything like that. It was about time. hah!
  • Today I went to IKEA with Ellen. First we ate dinner (the ever so delish swedish meatballs). Then we went shopping. I bought a part of a birthday gift for a friend and a few things for myself (two new garbage cans to go with our new recycling system, some candle lights and three small steel plates to put candles ontop, and a red cutting to match my red kitchen) IKEA always makes me happy.
  • I’m going to the movies on friday with Ellen. We’re going to see Up in the Air with George Clooney. I’ve seen the trailer for this movie and it seems great!
  • I bought four dvd’s on sale on saturday. It’s Coraline, Gran Torino, Kung Fu Panda and No Country for Old Men.  Four dvd’s for only 299 NOK. Sweet! I haven’t seen Kung Fu Panda or No Country for Old Men yet. Looking forward to that.
  • I downloaded John Mayers album Battle Studies on saturday. My oh my. It’s awesome! Just plain awesome. It makes me in the mood to write poems. Not all music has that effect on me, but this album has. It’s an album that grows on you. It only gets better and better!
  • I still have chocolate cupcakes left from sunday. Im thinking of getting myself one right now actually…
  • A plant in my bedroom that is highly neglected is blossoming again! No matter how little I water it, it still blossoms every year. It amazes me. I’ve thought about tossing it away, because I thought it might be dieing. But I’m not gonna do that now. I’ve had it for years! At least 4 years, I would guess 5. I took a picture of it in 2006, see it here.
  • I’m while eating chocolate cupcakes and writing here, also chatting with Chantie and trying to find a new wall color for her livingroom.  It’s possible to do this even if we’re long apart. Oh the wonders of internett and it’s possibilities ;)
  • I got invited to dinner at my parents this saturday; beef and baked potatoes. How could I say no?
  • It’s not as cold outside anymore. Not – 20C like last week. A huge relief.
  • It’s only 71 days until I’m gonna see Chantie again. W00t!
  • I bought some scrapping things online yesterday. It was on sale! I can’t wait to get it. It was mostly rubber stamps with a birthday-theme. It’s much needed for the birthday-cards I’m making.
  • I’m kicking Chanties ass when it comes to Cafe World (facebook game). muwhahaha.

I know the summer isn’t over yet and we might have a wonderful (sunny and warm) August. But still, I can’t ignore the fact that it is the 4th of August today and the fall is sneaking upon us, little by little each day.

I know many aren’t looking forward to days with rain and wind and a temp closer zero degree celcius each day. I am too one of those. Summer is lovely and so is winter with the cold weather and snow.  But the fall? I hate those gloomy days when it does nothing else than rain.

But why be so neative?

Here is 8 reasons to look forward to fall:

  1. You can cuddle up under a blanket and see a movie (without feeling quilty and thinking you should be outside in the sun (like in the summerdays)).
  2. The colors! The fall is so beautiful to photograph.
  3. If you have kids, you can pick a bunch of leafs and make art out of it. Like glu them to a pice of white paper or place them under the white paper and draw ontop so you get the outline of the leaf on the paper.
  4. Pick berries in the forrest. If you life near a forrest that is.
  5. You can start on a indoor project without worrying about the outdoor project you should’ve been doing.
  6. Light lots of candles. When the fall comes it gets darker and the candle lights can be brought out again.
  7. Read a good book while listening to the rain / wind outside.
  8. Did I mentioned the colors?! The colors are worth mentoning twice!

I have a few things planned when the rainy/cold days sets in already. And that is:

  • paint my skirtings in my entire apartment white. They are now pinewood and I hate it. Absolutely hate pinewood. Ugh.
  • Sow myself some duvet cover and pillowcase. Not done it before, but I’m gonna try. Will be fun. Gonna borrow my sisters sowing machine.
  • Organize my picture folders. Go through all of them, delete what’s not supposed to be there and take a backup of everything.
  • Organize my wardrobe.
  • work out a neat way to store all my bags / purses. I guess I have something between 15 – 20 in total. Lost count. I girl can’t have enough purses, can she?
  • get that shoesehelf built. Gonna do it myself with some help from my dad.

I guess that’s all I got for now. Not bad with six things on the list. Now it’s important to remember this list! Don’t be surprised if december comes and I’ve only done 1/3 of it.

Oh… and of course, I’m gonna take a ton of great pictures (even if it rains)!

Eight smells I love

  1. Newly cut tree / wood: I saw this huge pile of wood as I was walking / taking some pictures yesterday and today. When I came close up, I could smell that it hadn’t been long ago since these had been standing in the forrest.
  2. Freshly baked bread: On saturday I was up at 7 o’clock to bake bread. I know, it’s crazy. But I wanted freshly baked bread for breakfast. And I had promised my mum to bake bread that weekend, so I thought it would be fun to have the breads ready when they got up. I put the alarm on 7 sharp, because I knew I wouldn’t wake up all by myself. I dozed off a few minutes wondering if I should skip it all and just roll over and sleep more. But I stayed strong and got up! The smell in the kitchen was heavenly! And as usual the bread tasted lovely. Nothing beats warm bread with butter and brown cheese!
  3. Newly cut grass: It’s quite boring to move the lawn, but the smell of the grass when it’s cut, makes it worth it! Ah, when will the summer be here?
  4. Freshly baked chocolate cake: Doesn’t really need much of an explanation… I love everything with chocolate cakes and the smell is one of them. Every time I think about chocolate cake I wish I had a piece or three around. I wish I could just clap my hands twice and then a cake would be in the oven. Errr… wishfull thinking… Linda is celebrating her 30iest birthday next saturday. Yesterday she told me her mother is baking a chocolate cake. Heaven! Her chocolate cakes are so delish.
  5. My perfumes 212 and 212 Sexy by Carolina Herrera. What can I say? They smell good.
  6. Pondus and Samson’s fur. My parents’ two cats. Their fur smells lovely. I can bury my nose in it and snuggle. I was home visiting a friend this weekend and then had a lot of time with the cat. Good times!
  7. Baby skin. New born babies smells good. I can’t wait to see my little nephew this week. I’m happy that I work close to where Hanne and Geir lives, so I can visit every day. I “talked” to Hanne via sms on friday and she said she wanted lots of small visits. I can do that! the first photoshoot with auntie Kjersti will be this week! hah! Expect some pictures on flickr!
  8. Newly washed hair. I love the smell when  my hair is washed. Except that one time when I washed it with some Herbal Essence with rose-smell. Then I almost puked! It’s no fun walking around smelling like a rose all day, I tell you!
