Blogs, inspiration and projects

At the beginning of this year, as you may remember, I was very obsessed with John Mayer. I listened to Battle Studies every day for at least two months. I searched every kiosk downtown Oslo to find the Rolling Stone magazine with the John Mayer interview and watched youtube clips from of him. I followed him on twitter and I even linked to his blog, just to see what he wrote. I didn’t really matter what he wrote, as long as he wrote something.

God, thinking about it now, it feels like I jumped back in time to when I were 14. That’s how 14 year old girls act when it comes to their idols.

Now, I’m not so obsessed anymore. It has faded.

I still have a link to his blog, but it’s for another reason now. It’s not the teenager crush thing that is driving me. It’s something else.

Recently he has posted some of his own pictures, taken by either his iphone, Canon 5d or Leica M9! And I’m surprised, because his photographic skills are really good.  I shouldn’t really be surprised, becauce why couldn’t he be good at photographing as well? I guess I just didn’t expect it.

The man got the looks, he’s funny, he can sing, and he sure can use that gituar. And now he’s good at photographing as well! He has a way with words too; his writing is good and I like lots of his blogposts. The man sure has a lot of talent.

Go look here.

He is not the only one who has talent. Just look at the blogs I support. There are lots of talent behind those blogs.

Today I found a new blog I instantly fell for. It’s called Words to Shot By, and it’s absolutely great. The concept is to make a triptych (three pics) based on a word. That is so up my alley. I would love to do something like that with someone, but I don’t have anyone to ask? Hmm.

When I think about it, I do have a similar project; the flickr set is called numbers and the flickr group I called the diptych: two photos, one number and a list. The group have 26 members, but I’m the only one who has posted anything.

The idea behind the project is to make a diptych. One of the photo should contain a number and the other photo should be linked to the list you’re gonna write. And the list should be as long as the pictured number.

I haven’t contributed to that project in ages. Maybe it’s time to bring it back to life? It’s gonna be hard, because the main reason for me not working on it, was that I didn’t have any ideas. I couldn’t come up with anything worth listing.

I think I’m going to kick my self in the but and make me try harder. I don’t remember myself trying that hard last time. I’m gonna go find my beautiful notebook and start thinking out new ideas.

When I think about it, I might just have an idea already… :)

the bugs

You know you’ve seen too much CSI when you hear about a murder on the news (radio) and when they say that the police are at the place where the girl was obducted looking for shoeprints, you instantly can visualise what they are doing / how they are doing it.

This happened to me early this week. When I realised I was thinking about CSI I had to smile to myself.

I’m currently watching season 3. Only a few more epoisodes left now. I should be tracking down season 2. Or should I wait a bit, get a break from it? Try to get rid of that CSI bug? Doesn’t sound very fun. I think I’ll keep the bug for a little bit longer.

Talking about bugs. There is no news I’ve also caught the John Mayer bug. I’ve been listening to him constantly since he was on Skavlan (talkshow) the 15th of January. Today is the first time I listen to something else I think. And what do I listen to? Springsteen. Ta-da… :p No bomb that either. Well, I was watching CSI and filmed a sign saying ‘something turnpike’. The word turnpike reminds me of some old Springsteen songs.

Maybe this is it? Maybe this is the day when the bug leaves me? I have lots of other music I want to listen to. Lots of music I haven’t listend to enough; like Kleerup, the new Green Day album, old Joy Division albums etc.

I also got another bug I’m trying to get rid of. And that is the chocolate-bug.  Or I should actually say sweets-bug.

Last tuesday Linda was visiting me. While eating dinner I complained to her about my jeans not being big enough anymore and my growing belly. Not ‘i-m-pregnant-growing’, but ‘I’ve-eaten-too-much-chocolate-growing’. She welcomed me to the club! Heh.

Linda came up with the idea to have a little competition. Who could eat the least amount of candy in on month? We would start the next day and for every piece of chocolate, candy, sweetbread etc we ate, we would get one point. The one with the most points would loose!

We couldn’t just leave it wiht that. The looser had to do something in order to make it more interesting. So we made a deal that the looser has to make a three-course meal. None of us wants to do that.

So, how am I doing?

I haven’t eaten any candy since tuesday! Nothing! I’m quite surprised I’ve managed to keep it up so long. You know, I used to eat chocolate every day. I’ve thought about chocolate many times, but I’ve managed to only think about it.

It helps to not have any chocolate in the house. Well, I do have some, but I’ve hid it. Maybe not exactly hid it, but placed it somewhere I can’t access it easily. In the hall I have a shelf over the doors to the bedroom and livingroom. It’s very deep and I need a chair to get things down from it. I tossed the chocolate I had into the back of that shelf. It would be close to impossible to reach it wihtout some serious work.

Today has been hard. I want something sweet so bad. I would love to bake a cake or something. Marble cake, cream puffs or something… Siiiigh!

I got some crakers. I’ve eaten those the last days. I think I’m gonna eat some of those, even though I’m starting to get tired of them.

The Rolling Stone hunt

Some time yesteday I saw John Mayer tweet about reading an article about himself in Rolling Stone. The head story was about him. That made me interested and I thought I would like to read that myself.

Am I obsessed with Mayer these days? I listen to his music none-stop, I’ve added him to my twitter accout and I’m downloading lots of his mucis…. Well, I almost never add celebrities to my twitter acount, because they don’t interest me. But a Norwegian music journalist said, in a article he wrote about Mr. Mayer, that  his tweets was very funny. I thought, why not have a go at it? He was right by the way, his tweet is funny. So I’m keeping him for a while.

And I listen to his songs because they are fantastic! I’m curious of what else he has made, so I decided to download some more of him. I’m doing that as we speak.

Well, back to Rolling Stone.

I left work today and went downtown. I wanted to try to find that magazine. Omg. I think I visited ten kiosks (all Narvesen). Only one of them had Rolling Stone, but it was only the December issue and some special holiday issue. Gah. I was so annoyed when I went home.

I went walking the streets of Oslo for almost nothing! 10 kiosks! All in the city center.

I went to look at their webiste and then I realised, it’s not out yet! Doh! How could I known that, when it’s all featured on their website and Mayer twittered about it. I guess he had a preview copy.

At least I know now which kiost that most likely will get it. That’s at least something. Not what I had hoped for when I sat on the bus downtown though…

But thinking about it now, why didn’t the kiosk that had Rolling Stone, have the January issue? Hmmm. Where is the Januar issue? Maybe what I thought was the December issue, was December and January issue. God knows.

I have to remember to look for the next issue and hopefully I won’t forget it. But you know how my brain works.  Just like a goldfish’s  – bad, bad memory!

I find it strange that most Narvesten-kiosks (the biggest magazine-store we have) doesn’t have Rolling Stones. There were several other music magazines, like Uncut, Q, NME, but no Rolling Stone. They even had a new magazine called Elvis Presley International! Jeeze Louise, the man has been dead for eons of time. Ok, he was great and all that jazz, but still….. *rolls eyes and sigh*

Don’t they have it because it’s Amercian and all the of the other magazines seems to be from Europe? I dunno.  It’s no use for me to sit here an specualte on my own. I just have to face it, Rolling Stone is a hard magazine to find.

Maybe I should subscribe it? Hmm. doesn’t look like they send outside America. Doh! Anyway, I would have to read one issue before deciding on something like that.

If I don’t find it, I’ll have Chantie look for it in Amsterdam. She can mail it to me. Or I could get Angel to mail it to me. Hmmm. It would be a bit harder to pay her back than Chantie, so I think I’ll try her first if it comes nessecerry.

Whoa. A whole post just about Rolling Stone! Never thought that would happen ;)

Food = music & music = food

These last days my mind has been filled with two things:

  • music
  • food

Ever since I downloaded John Mayer’s album Battle Studies on sunday I haven’t been able to listen to anything else. And I listen to this album a lot! I listen to on my way to work, while I work (thank god I have a job where I can do that!), on my way home from work and when I come home. Basicly almost all the time.

Music is like food for me. I must have it. My life would’ve been shit without it. It goes in waves. Sometimes music isn’t so important, but other times it’s a must. Like now. I need music while working on my things at home (editing photos, running my fb-cafe, chatting etc)

These days it’s all about John Mayer. It didn’t get any better when I found out he has covered Springsteen’s I’m On Fire! Man, how cool! I tend not to like covers that people do of Springsteen’s songs, but this one I liked. His silky voice can’t go wrong!

As much as music is like food, these days food is like music too. It’s music in my photographing eyes. I’m at the grocerystore and my eyes are drawn to fruits and veggies I can photograph. Like I blogged about on sunday, I bought food to photograph on saturday. I’ve uploaded a few shots to flickr and I posted the photos here in my blog.

I think it was yesterday or maybe monday, I’m not sure. But one of those days I bought some more food; another apple and red onions. I saw this photo that my flickr buddy Kathrine Ridgely had taken. I instantly thought I wanted to try it out myself. Not copy it, but make my own take on it.  Today I did.

I have another similar idea with the apple and the ribbon, but I need to buy some stuff to execute that. Hopefully I will be able to do that tomorrow.

This is the red onion. It worked best in black and white I think. It got a little dull in colors. So this is not all about the food aspect, this is more about the lovely pattern the onion give. Somehow the middel reminds me of a tiny fetus. Yep, that’s how my brain works. I see strange things with my eyes.

Im out of food to photograph now, so I need to think of new interesting things to photograph. It’s not easy to photograph food. It can easily be dull / unintersting photo.

I think I will have to go on a search for a pomegranate. I have always wanted to photograph one and it’s about time. Regular grocerystores doesn’t have it. At least not the ones I’ve been visiting. Maybe it’s time to find some store that only has veggies and fruits? Yes, I think so.
