Ramblings of a photographer

I’m sitting here pondering over today’s phototrip while listening to John Mayer. It seems like I’ve caught the JM-bug. I can’t seem to be able to put on something else than his music. It just happens automaticly when I open iTunes; I scroll down to the folder that says John Mayer. And then I play from the two cd’s I’ve imported; Battle Studies and Room for Squares. I don’t even bother to import any of his music I got. It’s been like this a month or so now. It’s gotten so far that I know a lot of lyric by heart.

Well, back to my phototrip which I initially was going to talk about. Looking at today’s processed photos, I can say one thing; the only consistant is the round corners. One minute I shot a mailbox, the next I’m shooting a street with trees.

There is no theme in my photographing. I don’t do portraits or photograph  people. I’m not all about architecture, even though I love it. My photography is not only consisting nature shots.

I shot all sorts of things.

I don’t have a speciallity; a field where I kick ass. I know where I’m not so good, but I don’t think I have any talent in something spesific when it comes to photographing.

Sometimes I wonder if that is a good thing or bad.

Do I need to have a specialty to get somewhere. Or is it ok to be versatile? Somehow I’ve thought that you need something special, something that is your signature. Do I?

When thinking about it, I don’t really want to limit myself to take only take some kind of pictures. I want to capture whatever my eyes see worthy.  And that can be anything!

I don’t see myself turning this hobby into something else; like a career anytime soon. So why bother with thoughts like this at all. Maybe there is something deep, deep down inside me who thinks or wishes this, me photographing, could lead to something? I guess it is. But I shouldn’t expect anything, because I’m not doing anything to make that happen.

So I’ll guess I’ll keep this a fun hobby until my midlife crisis starts and I want re-invent myself. Then I can think about turning this into something bigger than just a hobby. heh.

Let’s end with a mix of todays shot.

Just for the record; on the other side of this street lays the best chocolate factory there is! Freja (Krafts Food).

I love how the sun hit the brown wall and the green mailbox.

It’s when you see things like this, your heart jumps a little. It’s just a awesome painting. Or should I say grafitti?

A diptych. Simple. Two elements; sky/clouds & snow

The way I see it…

I have to say and I don’t say this to brag or anything… but I love how I see things. Something that other people would just walk by, I stop. The most ordinary things, I find interesting in some way. And I like to think that I see things not everyone is seeing. I’m not saying I’m the one and only who see the world and the everyday life the way I do, but there is a lot of people I know that doesn’t see things the way I do.

Be out and photographing is fun. Like yesterday on my way home from work, I took a tiny detour to see if I could find something to photograph. I walked down a street, through a tiny park and then a few streets again.

On the short detour I only got a few shots, but I really like both of them.

This is a plastic ‘fence’. Immideately after I saw it, I knew I wanted to photograph it. The pattern reminded me of some skirt from the 50’s. I would love to have a skirt with a pattern like that!

And this is old vs new. The writing on the top of the door caught my attention.  It says ‘anno 1903’. The door with the tagging, it has to be ‘anno 2010’. What a contrast.

Tomorrow the weather is going to be great. – 6 and sunny. My plan is to go on a little phototrip again. I have an idea for a shot. I’m gonna re-do this shot, just make it a bit different. Will need to bring my 18-125 mm lense then. Too bad I don’t remember exactly which street I found the mirror. I’ll have to walk around a bit. I will locate it in the end.

Bikes, bikes and bikes

Yesterday I was on a little phototrip after I left the office. I leaft a litte bit early since I had to stop by the post office and post a package for a colleague. After I’d finished that I went for a walk in the post office’s neighbourhood.

I walked around for almost an hour before I decided to go home. I was super cold. Walking around in a dress is not the ideal. let me tell you that. A bit bummed because I hadn’t gotten many great shots I headed for the tram.

Out of nowhere, across the street I was walking I saw some bikes. And not just any bikes. Old bikes. My heart smiled, if I can say it like that. You know I love old bikes. I rushed over to take some shots. I had to wait a short while before I could start shooting. You see, a man came walking my way. I’m still not 100% comfortable with using my camera when people walk by. Especially not if I’m taking photos of odd things, like a bike seat.

People tend to stare a lot. They give me the ‘what-do-you-do-look’. I know I’m not supposed to care about it, but I do.

Anyway. It was a bit dark outside, since the remains of yesterdays sun was behind some buildings, but still I find these shots worth posting.

I love that clover on the bell.

One Headlight. That is the first thing that comes in mind when I see photo. And ‘One Headlight’ reminds me of the Wallflowers. The Wallflowers is a group with Jacob Dylan (yes, Bob’s son) as the lead singer. They have a beautiful song called One Headlight.

This seat is just so yummy, if you can say that about a seat. Heh. I love the brown color.

I’ve come to the conclution, since I love bikes so much, that when I see Chantie in end of March, I will need an hour or so where I can just photograph bikes! The Netherlands is, which you might already know, filled with bikes. And most of them are old too. A great combination for me.

Chantie can either tag a long on my bikephototrip or do something else. I haven’t run this idea by her yet, she have to agree. I’ll make her agree! heh.

That’s it for today. I got my hands on some new episodes of CSI Season 6. So you all know what I’m gonna do now…

Hasta la vista, baby. I’ll be back!

(iiiik, I just quoted the one and only Mr. Arnold…)

When snowstorm and absense of sunlight…

I said I was going to take more photos today. When I left work today it snowed so badly and the sun was not present. I was not propperly dressed (tunika and stalkings). So I soon realised I had to drop my planned phototrip.

Instead I went downtown to buy some groceries and things I needed to make cupcakes in particular. When I came to the street where I live, I decided to pop the camera out of my purse and document the snowing. The picture above is taken from one end of the street where I live. I love my street. So quite and away from the heavy trafic nearby.

I got a few different shots of a tree nearby too.  I really like photos of branches against (blue) sky.

These are somewhat dark and mysterious. I like that.

So since the photowalk didn’t happen, I made cupcakes instead. You see, me and my colleague Gøril, we play card every lunch break. It’s such a nice thing to do, to relax and not think about what to do next. We play Gin Rummy. Just to add a little fun, we have statisitics. We note down who wins every game. After 50 games, we count all the wins and see who scored the most points. Whoever loses, have to bake something and bring it to work.

As you see, losing isn’t the worst thing that can happen! But still, we fight both of us to not lose. It’s a bit of prestige in it all.

What is the best of all, is to see all colleagues drool over what we bring; weather it’s chocolate cake or cupcakes. There is always someone who wants a piece. The rule is clear, the one who wins decides if someone is getting something or not. But no matter what, no one is getting anything before we are done eating! The last time I’ve baked, I’ve baked cupcakes and only brought enough for the two of us. And when someone ask for a piece I say: ‘Did you play with us? No? Oh well, NO cake for you’. And then I put on my brightest smile. Evil? That might be. But I’m fully enjoying it. muwhaha.

So these are todays chocolate cupcakes. Well, not all but some fo them. I made 15 in total. These 7 I will bring to the office.

I did a little twist with the frosting this time. I didn’t use icing sugar mixed with water and color this time. I used a delicious chocolate frosting, that I normally use on my chocolate cakes.

Nom, nom, nom.

I’m alive

Hello there. I know, it’s been a while since I’ve blogged. It’s been a while since I’ve posted anything to flickr too. There is only one reason to that: CSI NY!

Yep, what you read is true. Crime Scene Investigatin: New York is the reason. Odd you might think. It sort of is I assume. I get this periods where I get hooked on something. And when it’s ongoing it’s intense. Like it has bee now.

After New Year I started to watch CSI: N.Y. which is on every wednesday. It’s season 6. I started to watch episode 4 or was it 5. Doesn’t matter. I didn’t catch the first episodes of the season and wanted to watch them. After some work I got hold of the 12 first episodes of season 6 and I was hooked! I also got hold of season 5. So after finishing the 12 episodes of season 6, I saw the whole season 5.

I’ve seen 37 episode of a timespan of 11 days. Whaha. It’s ridicoulus, I know. It’s like 3 episodes a day. It’s been so bad that I’ve dreamt about this. Not CSI in particular, but crime scene investigations. I’m crazy! Well… we all knew that already!

You can understand why I haven’t had time to blog or post many pics on flickr, can’t you?

Yesterday, when turning off the lights and waiting for sleep to catch me, I was thinking about the fact that I need to let some creativity back into my life again.  So I decided to bring my camera to work and take some pics after work ended at 16.00.

Here is the result:

A beautiful tree.

A VW with a beautiful blue color and a cat sticker in its headlight.

Barb wire. Oh the grain.

This bird reminded me of Twitter. haha. Love the colors!

I haven’t planned to stop with today. Tomorrow is a new day and I’m bringing my camera tomorrow too. I will walk in a different area and see if I can get some other cool shots. Lets hope there will be some sunlight tomorrow too.

Before the week is over, I have to make mum a card since it’s Mother’s Day here in Norway on sunday. And I would like to finish the wedding card I’ve started who Linda is giving to a her boyfriends sister and husband to come.

I also might do some fun foodshots. We’ll see how much time I got.

No more posts.
